When dosed as instructed, Revolution for dogs with Canex provides protection against:
Adult fleas, flea eggs and flea larvae
Fleas are blood-sucking miniscule parasites that live on your petās skin and coat. About 5% of the flea population in an animalās environment are adults, 50% is flea eggs and 35% flea larvae. The remaining 10% are flea pupae. This is important as many products do not treat the entire flea lifecycle!
Flea allergy dermatitis (FAD)
FAD is an itchy skin condition caused by an allergic reaction your dog has to the fleaās saliva, when they get bitten by a flea. Affected animals are often very agitated and itchy, and spend a lit of time biting and licking themselves. Their skin is usually reddened and there may be hair loss and lesions.
Ear mites
Highly contagious and spread by direct contact, these mites cause external ear inflammation, which results in frequent head shaking, pawing, discharge and odour from the ear.
Lice
Lice cause intense itchiness, and irritation. The skin may become reddened and the coat rough. Some dogs may become lethargic and lose weight in severe cases. They are easily spread by direct contact with an infected animal.
Sarcoptic mange
Scabies, a form of mange, often results in severe inflammation, which causes intense itchingĀ and eventuates in hair loss. The mites are invisible to the naked eye and can be easily transmitted between dogs or to people.
Heartworm
Heartworms are worms that live in the arteries of the lungs and the chambers of the dogās heart. Heartworm infection is spread by mosquitoes. Signs of heartworm infection in dogs may include lethargy, coughing, weight loss and dry coat, but vary depending on the individual.
Hookworm
Hookworm infection is very common in Australia. Hookworm eggs are shed in dog faeces and the larvae then hatch and use their hook-like mouthparts to burrow into the skin of their next host. One of the most common ways puppies contract hookworm is through their motherās milk. Puppies with severe infestations suffer with anaemia, sometimes requiring blood transfusion.
Roundworm
Roundworms are different from other worms because they do not feed off the dogās blood supply, but rather from partially the digested food in the large intestine. Because of this, large infestations can cause reduced or stunted growth in puppies, and ill-thrift in adult dogs. Roundworms are an important zoonotic parasite that can affect humans and in some cases lead to blindness in infected people.
Whipworm
Similarly to hookworms, they attach to the wall of the intestine and feed off the blood vessels there. Large infestations can cause inflammation, leading to bloody diarrhea and anaemia in your dog.
Tapeworm
There are two main types of tapeworm of concern: the flea tapeworm (spread by fleas) and the hydatid tapeworm (spread by eating fresh offal from infected animals such as sheep, goats, wildlife, etc). Hydatid tapeworm is of particular concern as if a human becomes an accidental host, life-threatening hydatid cysts may develop in the brain and other tissues of the person.
Revolution for dogs is safe for use in puppies from six weeks old, making it one of the only complete products suitable for use from an early age. You can find our range of Revolution Dog Wormer and Flea Treatments here.
